Almost Worth the Pain

Ain't it almost worth the sorrow?
Ain't it almost worth the shame?
If the sun don't rise tomorrow
Ain't it almost worth the pain?

She comes tearin' out that old screen door

As he sits there on the couch

He don't think she's been this mad before

And he don't know what it's about

She jumps in the front of his new Ford

Slams that bitch in drive

She ain't dyin', she's been dead before

And she's leaving here alive

Ain't it almost worth the sorrow?
Ain't it almost worth the shame?
If the sun don't rise tomorrow
Ain't it almost worth the pain?

He could chase her if he had her keys;

Would it matter if he did?

She just left him, pretty as you please

With the dog and cat and kid

He calls his mama, 'cause she won't judge

And every other woman lies

She says, “Honey, thank the lord above that you made it out alive."

Ain't it almost worth the sorrow?
Ain't it almost worth the shame?
If the sun don't rise tomorrow
Ain't it almost worth the pain?

He believes she'll turn that truck around

Before she hits the county line

It isn't that she doesn't love him now

She just needs to feel alive

Ain't it almost worth the sorrow?
Ain't it almost worth the shame?
If the sun don't rise tomorrow
Ain't it almost worth the pain?

Instinctively Reactive

This mountain seems a little higher than it used to
This fountain seems a little dryer as well
You might not dream as much as you used to
You wanna scream, but you're tired as hell
Just because they said good night doesn't mean they meant it
Just because they said sweet dreams doesn't mean they wanted them to come true
Time moves slow when you're at the bottom
You wanna go any where else
You think you know, but they say thinking's the problem
Thinking don't put food on your shelves
Just because they said good night doesn't mean they meant it
Just because they said sweet dreams doesn't mean they wanted them to come true
I woke up somewhere in the middle
Of right and wrong and everything else
It seems like life is just some sort of riddle
But each answer leads me back to myself
Just because they said good night doesn't mean they meant it
Just because they said sweet dreams doesn't mean they wanted them to come true

Low Country

Carolina, where you been?

On a Sunday afternoon with the rain pooring down

I can remember, but I couldn't hear a word

This old tin roof drowns out the sound

Stay here with me

and let's begin

Lay here with me

And play pretend

This could all be real...

Love, if the stars shine bright and the moon is above

Or we could both fall

And shatter into a million peices

or nothing at all

Stay here with me
and let's begin
Lay here with me
And play pretend

This could all be real...

Not just some lullaby or fairy tale

You know I feel a little more and more each time

Each time you lay with me

Lay here with me

and let's begin

Stay here with me (stay with me)

And play pretend

This could all be real...
